Exchange 2007 Installation & Administration

Duration 5 days

Exchange 2007 Installation & Administration is a five day course which covers the tools and techniques necessary build and manage a simple Exchange 2007 based mail solution. You will start by learning about Mail Systems in general and Exchange in particular. You will become familiar with the Exchange Organisation and how it functions. You will look at networking, Active Directory and Windows 2003 Server from the focus of how these areas interact with Exchange. You will then progress to configuring the base operating system and installing Exchange 2007. Finally you will learn the steps needed to configure your new Mail system so that e-mail can be sent and received across the Internet. You will end this part of the course by considering how to upgrade earlier versions of Exchange.

Once you have a mail system running you will learn how to administer the system: you will discover how to manage Recipients, control storage, and configure the major Exchange Server roles.

Next you will consider the various clients available to Exchange you will look at setting up representative examples including Outlook Web Access (OWA).

Finally you will consider monitoring and troubleshooting Exchange server.

The course uses the “Lecture/Lab” format were you will be introduced to a topic by your Instructor and then have the chance to experiment on a working system usually guided by a written Lab or Exercise.

You will be encouraged to explore the subject in a “hands-on” way using the working network provided. You will work as part of a small team (typically two delegates) and have the use of two e-mail servers to experiment on. Occasionally you will link your system to that of other attendees to explore the implications of larger network models.

Documentation is included with the course, this consists of: a professionally written guide, hands-on labs, and handouts as necessary.

Target Audience

The following will benefit from this course:

Edge Transport Servers & Unified Messaging Overview
The Edge Transport Server sits between your internal mail system and the Internet and will be of interest to larger Exchange systems (with a bigger budget). Unified Messaging (UM) is a new capability to Exchange which allows you to hold voice mail, fax and traditional e-mail all in a single mailbox. UM is a very complex topic and requires dedicated hardware to implement. Both these roles will be covered in outline so that you can understand the topics enough to see if they would benefit your organisation.
